SEMOWI NATURE CAMP FAQ

Semowi is approximately 32 km north of Maun. The journey normally takes around one hour, depending on road and water conditions. The final 11 km follows an unpaved bush road.

Semowi is located on the Gomoti River on the edge of the Okavango Delta. The river and surrounding landscape are part of the wider Delta ecosystem, with wildlife regularly moving through the area.

No. Semowi is outside Moremi Game Reserve, between Maun and Moremi. This makes the camp a convenient stop before or after visiting the reserve, while still allowing guests to experience the waterways and wildlife of the Okavango Delta.

Yes. A 4×4 vehicle is required to reach Semowi. The final 11 km is an unpaved bush road, and conditions can change with sand, rain and seasonal flooding. We provide guests with current directions before arrival.

Our safari tents are designed for two adults, with a king or twin-bed setup. We can also add up to two extra beds for children, depending on the family configuration. If you are travelling with children, let us know their ages when booking so we can prepare the tent accordingly.

No. Our three private campsites are set in the woodland behind the river area rather than directly on the Gomoti River. Campsite guests are welcome to enjoy the main deck, restaurant and bar by the river.

Each private campsite has access to shared ablution facilities, a braai area and solar electricity. The campsites are protected by an electric fence. Solar power is suitable for essentials such as charging phones and running a camping fridge, but not high-consumption electrical appliances.

Yes. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available around the main deck, restaurant and bar area. Wi-Fi is not available throughout the campsites.

Yes. Campsite guests are very welcome at the restaurant. Breakfast starts from US$7.50, lunch and dinner dishes start from US$10.50, and our evening buffet is US$12.50 per person.

Yes. Please let us know a little in advance if you would like to eat at the restaurant, so our kitchen team has time to prepare. This is especially important for dinner, buffets and larger groups.

Yes. Vegetarian and vegan options are available. Please let us know about dietary requirements or allergies, preferably before arrival, so our kitchen team can prepare accordingly.

This depends on the rate or meal plan you booked. Safari-tent stays are available with Bed & Breakfast, Dinner Bed & Breakfast or Full Board options. Some campsite bookings also include breakfast, so please check your booking confirmation or ask us if you are unsure.

Yes. We can arrange mokoro experiences in the Okavango Delta. We drive you from Semowi to the mokoro station, where you meet your local poler and begin your journey through the Delta waterways. Options include a sunset mokoro excursion and a full-day mokoro experience with time on a Delta island.

Yes. Semowi is well positioned for exploring the wildlife areas north of Maun. Moremi Game Reserve can be visited on a full-day safari or by experienced self-drivers. We also often recommend Kaziikini Community Concession, which is closer to Semowi and offers an excellent wildlife and bush experience without having to travel as far as Moremi.

Yes. Many of our guests travel through Botswana by 4×4 and use Semowi before or after visiting Moremi. Road and water conditions can change considerably with the season, so we recommend checking current conditions and routes before departure.

You don’t need a full day to experience the area. Shorter options include a sunset river cruise, sunset mokoro experience and a cultural village walk. Or simply slow down and rest at Semowi, enjoy the deck overlooking the Gomoti River, watch the birds, listen to the hippos and see what wildlife decides to wander past.

Yes. Children are welcome at Semowi. Our safari tents are designed for two adults, and we can add up to two extra beds for children depending on the family configuration. Families are also welcome at our private campsites.

Yes. Many of our guests travel through Botswana in their own 4×4 or rental vehicle. Semowi is particularly convenient for travellers moving between Maun, Shorobe and the wildlife areas farther north. We provide current directions before arrival and are happy to share local information about road conditions.

Yes. Semowi operates primarily on solar power. Electricity is available for normal essentials such as charging phones and running camping fridges, but high-consumption appliances should not be used.

Yes. Semowi is on the Gomoti River in a natural wildlife area, so animals move through the surroundings freely. Hippos are often heard in the evenings and at night, elephants sometimes visit the river, and there is abundant birdlife. Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed, though. This is the bush, not a zoo, and that’s part of the experience.

Yes. Semowi is protected by an electric fence, including the private campsite area. However, we are in a natural wildlife area, so guests should still follow camp safety instructions and remain aware of their surroundings, especially after dark.
